Definitions to calculate aisle width

The aisle width (A_st) of a forklift is the minimum width of a straight aisle in which a truck carrying a given load can turn 90°.

The Ast is defined by:

• W_a: turning raduis
• b₁₂: width of the load
• l₆: length of the load 
• x: load distance
• a: 200 mm safety clearance
• b₁₃: internal turning radius

Formulas to calculate aisle width

3- and 4-wheel* counterbalanced trucks

*when b₁₂ is larger than two times the internal turning radius b₁₃:

     A_st = W_a +√((l₆ + x)² + (b₁₂/2)²) + a

4-wheel* counterbalanced trucks

*when b₁₂ is equal/smaller than two times the internal turning radius b₁₃:
